WebLog 1: CLASS SURVEY

Hi. My name is Mallory DeLauro, and I've lived in Mayfield Heights, Ohio for my entire life. Right now I am still living at home while going to school.

I liked to be called Mallory, though a lot of people call me Mal

I think that I am going to go for Early Childhood Education as my major, but then I plan to also get certified in fourth and fifth grade as well, with my core areas being English and history.

I am into reading, some of my favorite books are the Harry Potter series and the Outsiders. I also like writing, drawing, softball and swimming. I am also a Christian. Some unique things about me would be that I seem shy at first, but once you get to know me I like to talk a lot. I also prefer cold weather to warm weather.

To feel comfortable in the classroom, I need to feel comfortable with the people in the classroom, meaning that I need to know that people will not put down my ideas.

As a student I do like to participate and answer questions, I really like class discussions. I am responsible and I am always prepared for class, I always do my homework, once in a while I might just skim a reading, but I am working on keeping up with readings more. I like to learn, but sometimes I need to be more open minded. I am a good student and a good listener. I learn best through seeing things and through taking notes and class discussions. When I don't understand something I read it over and then if I still don't get it I might ask a classmate or go to the teacher.

I think that the most important technological invention is the computer. I think this because through the computer you can do also anything, read the news, keep in touch with old friends, do school projects, the list is endless.

The technologies I used most in my life are:
cell phone
computer
TV
Ipod
Wii/Nintendo DS

I am a commuter so after a typical school day I go home, do homework, maybe read or go on the computer, then later on I will watch some TV, but school work always comes first.

I think that cell phones could be better regulated. I agree that they are good for certain cases, but people, both students and teacher use them too much both inside and outside of school. While in school cell phone should be kept in backpacks and purses and not even allowed in elementary schools.

In this class we should visit schools and see what kind of technology they are using, we should study children in relation to technology, we, as a class should work together as a team, and we should avoid too many distractions and be ready to work.

Will we visit schools in this class? What do I need to do to succeed in this class?
